Wieteke Heldens

Bio

Wieteke Heldens primarily works with paint as her medium. She creates abstract art out of personal experiences and thoughts. Heldens graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague in 2007. Since 2010, Heldens has lived in both the Hague and New York.  Heldens is an Artist-in-Residence at the Flux Factory in New York. She has shown her work around the world. Heldens won the Royal Prize for Painting in The Netherlands in 2013.

"It's Like You Know" Description: This image is a photograph og a painting. The painting hangs on a white wall. The paint used has a washed-out, almost watercolor appearance. The right third of the painting  shows a long, thin blue wave shape. The wave doubles back on itself eight times. The bottom of the painting also has a blue wave shape, however this wave is much shorter. In the middle of the painting is a yellow quarter of a circle. The inside of the circle is made up of dashed lines. Around the circle is a green rectangle. Surrounding this green rectangle are a series of thin black lines. At the bottom of the painting, moving from the left side of the painting to the center, then curving upwards, and then curving back towards the right side of the painting is a thick black line.

"The Legend (The Hague) 4" Description:  This photograph shows a beige canvas hanging on a white wall. On the canvas are numerous scribbles and paint splotches of different colors and sizes. Each mark is unique. The artist has grouped the splotches and scribbles by color. In the upper left corner are yellow marks, with pink and purple marks underneath, and blue marks under that. Next to these colors is a thinner, longer section of green marks.  Next to the green marks are white, black, and brown marks. Finally, on the right side of the canvas are orange and red marks. Underneath each mark is a small slip of paper with a number on it.

"It's Like You Know x4" Description: This piece features four identical panels hanging on a white wall. Each panel has black paint mark along the sides and top. The bottom of the painting is lined in a teal color. At the top center of each panel is an orange circle. Grey semi-circles radiate out from the orange circle. Beneath the grey semi-circles is a purple squared-off spiral. Underneath the spiral is a diagonal blue-grey line. Beneath this line is a black wave shape.
