Video Description

The video opens on a black screen with white text in the middle. The text states that the work was nominated for an award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015. The text changes to a statement regarding who the piece was created in association with. An audio track of a man stammering is played while the text is on screen. A brief description of the show appears on the screen: “A darkly comic grapple with the awkward task of expression, inviting you into the mind of a person who stammers.” The video transitions to a close-up shot of feet walking towards the camera. As the feet approach, a record player comes into focus. A hand places the needle of the record player onto a record and “I Love You More Than Words Can Say” by Otis Redding plays. The title of the piece, “Just a Few Words” appears on the screen. This is followed by close-up shots of a person’s hands, feet, and face. The camera switches to a wider angle showing a man dressed in all black standing against a black background. His hands are clasped and he stammers. To the left of him is a grey, waist-high pillar with a stack of papers on top. The man picks up the top piece of paper which has written on it in black marker the words “Sorry, hang on.” He continues to lift and drop the sheets of paper revealing more writing. The ground around the man becomes covered in paper. He gets on his hands and knees and rifles through the sheets of paper. The Otis Redding record is interrupted by static and then resumes. A review appears on the screen and the record is again interrupted by static. The man begins to talk about stammering. He occasionally stammers over his words as he does. The video ends with the static noises of the record as the words “Just a Few Words” appear again on the screen and the video fades to black.
